Art Club Constitution

Article I. Name
The organization shall be known as the Newark Valley Art Club

Article II. Purpose
The purpose of the Newark Valley Art Club shall be:

  • To promote the arts through the school and community.
  • To put on the Newark Valley Art Show, this will provide a place for the school community to presentation art to the public.

Article III. Membership
Active membership in the Newark Valley Art Club shall be open to all students in grades eight through twelve.

Article IV. Offices and Elections

  • The elective offices shall consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
  • A nominating committee shall be formed to work with the sponsor to nominate a worthy slate of officers the June before these officers will serve.
  • Election of officers shall be held at the end of the former school year.
  • Officers shall be elected by a majority vote of the members who have been in art club that year and are present to vote.
  • In the event that the president is unable to fulfill his/her duties, those duties will be assumed by the Vice-President.
  • In the event that the Vice-President, Secretary, or Treasurer is unable to fulfill his/her duties, another officer may temporarily assist, or, in the event of a long-term problem, an election will be held to fill that vacancy.
  • Any officer who does not satisfactorily perform the duties of his/her office may be replaced, primarily by the sponsors’ choice and by a majority vote. Before the vote takes place, proper justification needs to be provided.

Article V. Meetings

  • At least two meetings a week will be held to conduct business.
  • Mandatory meetings may be called by a sponsor or the president.

Article VI. Amendments

  • The constitution may be amended providing such an amendment has been submitted in writing to the sponsor. The sponsor may also suggest amendments.
  • Amendments shall become part of the constitution when approved by a vote of 2/3 of the members present. The voting will occur during a mandatory meeting.

Article VII. Duties of Officers

  • It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings of the Newark Valley Art Club. The president shall act as assistant to the sponsors.
  • The Vice-President shall also assist the President and the sponsors
  • The Secretary will be responsible for keeping record of attendance, preparing and handing out bus passes, noting the previous meetings actions, and assisting the other officers a or sponsors.
  • The Treasurer will be expected to assist the sponsor with all financial matters and help the other officers.

Article VIII. Finances

  • Money-making ventures shall be approved by a majority vote of the present members.
  • Approval by majority vote of any project or activity will sanction the payment of necessary expenditures to complete such projects of activity.
  • All finances shall be handled by the sponsor and shall be kept in the Newark Valley Art Club activities account.

Article IX. Rights of Members

  • Each member of this organization shall have equal rights and privileges.
  • No member may be suspended, expelled or otherwise disciplined by this organization unless it is determined justified.

Article X. Merit Awarding

  • The list of students participating in any activity shall be decided by seniority, work ethic, and merit.

Article XI. Adoption

  • This constitution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption by a majority vote of the students at a mandatory meeting.

Article XII. Executive Committee

  • An Executive Committee shall be formed and consist of the officers and the sponsors.
  • The Executive Committee shall have the power to conduct all financial business.
  • The Executive Committee shall deem by work ethic and merit who is to be expelled from the Newark Valley Art Club.
